BF4-Escort vehicles
BF4 vehicles combine a large, 360° rotatable variable message sign system with specially trained personnel and clear regulatory plans.
What is a BF4 vehicle?
Escort vehicles (BF) for heavy and oversize transports are classified according to their equipment – from basic escort to independent traffic management. BF4 vehicles represent the highest class: they have a large variable message sign system (WVZ) on the roof, which can display lane restrictions, overtaking prohibitions and other traffic signs as required.
In conjunction with trained escort personnel, a BF4 vehicle can regulate traffic within the scope of the permit – for example, at bottlenecks or when using the opposite lane. This makes many transports possible even without continuous police escort.
The WVZ system can be rotated 360° to inform oncoming or crossing traffic. The BF4 personnel are considered administrative assistants and are bound by the regulations and plans of the authorities.
Features
- 360° rotatable variable message sign system (WVZ) with displayable traffic signs
- Yellow all-round warning lights and conspicuous warning markings
- Radio and communication technology for coordination with drivers, other escort vehicles and authorities
- Equipment for securing sections of the route within the scope of the permit
When is a BF4 used?
The relevant authority determines in the respective permit whether a transport requires escort by a BF2, BF3/BF3+ or BF4 vehicle. Factors include dimensions, route, and the number of critical points such as bottlenecks, roundabouts or town centres.
- Narrow town centres or roundabouts without sufficient space for opposing traffic
- Sections of the route where the opposite lane must be used
- Transports where, according to the permit, continuous police escort can be dispensed with
Our role
BKF Service GmbH considers during the route assessment where the use of a BF4 vehicle is useful or necessary, and coordinates this with the permitting process and deployment planning.
Which escort vehicle class does your transport require?
We assess on a project-specific basis which equipment and authority are required for your route.
